More California State Flag Trivia

Commentary

Like Texas, California’s flag has a “Lone Star” on it, signifying its time as an independent nation, not part of Mexico or other sovereign country, nor yet part of the United States proper. In the case of California, independence lasted less than a month.

California’s modern lone star symbol is from the Lone Star Flag of California, which was flown after a coup led by Juan Alvarado 🔗 in which he made himself governor and declared California’s independence from Mexico. This flag was a horizontal banner with a single red star in the center.
